Apps to keep children and young people learning

Everyone has been impacted by school closures, and many are looking for ways to keep children and young people learning during this time.

We have put together some of the best apps and learning systems, some free, some paid to use to keep everyone on track

ABC Mouse

ABC Mouse offers a full curriculum in a carefully designed program of more than 850 lessons in ten levels. As children complete each lesson, they are guided to the next one and is motivated to continue learning by a Tickets and Rewards System.

Duolingo

Duolingo is a language learning system that can be completed via an app or on a computer and uses little games to teach languages. The choice of languages are endless and it covers French, German, Spanish and Italian, so children can continue with the language they are learning at school.

Cost – Free (with ads) paid version available
Ages – 4+

The Maths Factor

The Maths Factor is an online maths tutoring site for 4-11 year olds. The content is ordered to match the new 2014 national curriculum in England, but the site is used successfully by children all around the world.

The heart of The Maths Factor are short sessions designed for daily use. Each session starts with a lively video tutorial by Carol, followed by a fun warm-up and then a practice. There are over 1,000 of these sessions, arranged into 32 topics.

BBC Bitesize

BBC Bitesize offers lessons and revision from ages 3 – post 16 students.

As a result of the current school closures, beginning Monday 20 April, BBC Bitesize will publish daily online lessons for all ages. They also have a new dedicated TV channel full of learning content, podcasts on BBC Sounds and loads of educational video on iPlayer.

IXL Maths and English

IXL offers a comprehensive curriculum for both English and maths, focusing on 5,000 skills through lessons from Reception to year 13.

Duolingo ABC learn

Duolingo ABC Learn to read is a fun hands-on way to teach your child to read via a fun smartphone app.
